The 405 photographs document a journey through the pain of a loss. Produced in the thick shadow of grief, and the climate of isolation and uncertainty ensuing from the rise of COVID-19 pandemic in Melbourne, this series attests to the importance of trust and friendship. Developed in conjunction with NWH’s Melbourne-based mentor, poet Ian McBryde, the 405 project became a ritualistic means by which the collaborators acknowledged and confronting the spectre of grief, only to re-discover the power of artistic purpose and hope. In demonstrating the transformative potential of photography, the images collectively capture a time and space known to the collaborators as ‘405.’
