The rise of COVID-19 led the (High-Risk Accomodation Response) Community Engagement Manager of Star Health to conceive The Positive Stories Project. Intended to heighten community health awareness during the pandemic, the project involved photographing and interviewing over a dozen residents and outreach professionals in the South Melbourne area. These unique portrait sessions occurred in locations chosen by each participant, and extended to include the solicitation of a narrative regarding their decision to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.
The project materials were then produced as billboard posters. These circulated throughout the local and broader Melbourne areas. The posters each incorporated a QR code, directing interested onlookers to a website containing the larger participant narrative, and an extended selection of photographs from the shoot. While facilitating Star Health messaging about COVID-19 Community Safety, this assignment also aligned with NWH’s interest in facilitating the expression of local voices.
