Above The Water is an extended collection produced as part of the photographer’s relationship with Harriet McKnight. In addition to being the his fiancée and muse, Harriet was herself an accomplished artist (published author). The collection celebrates the union of their creative passions – their shared and relentless endeavour to transcend ‘the everyday,’ as per the Surrealist notion l’amour fou. Assigned after Harriet’s passing in 2018, the title communicates this sense of transcendence, while simultaneously acknowledging water as a recurrent visual motif, referencing Harriet’s connection with The Sapphire Coast. A selection of photographs from this collection was shortlisted for Photo Collective’s 2021 Stories Award.
