The Disassembly Line documents the operations performed on a rural abattoir’s killing floor. Focusing on the process by which livestock is transformed into consumable meat products, the series shows a violent, repetitive labour, hinting at its physical and psychological impact on workers. In registering expressions of detachment and hyper-masculinity, the photographs question the equation of economic productivity and human labour, suggesting a human cost embedded within industrial efficiency.

The Disassembly Line first exhibited at Seventh Gallery in Melbourne, 2016. The series re-exhibited as part of The Work of Art: An Exhibition of Art, Labour & Working Life at The Mission to Seafarers in 2018 before being shortlisted for Photo Collective’s 2020 Stories Award.
